Sorrento to Amalfi: Route Guide

Amalfi town, destination from Sorrento

The Route

From Sorrento, the road climbs through the hills of the Lattari Mountains before descending dramatically into Positano. From there, the SS163 coast road winds along the cliffs through Praiano and past the Fiordo di Furore before reaching Amalfi. Every stretch offers breathtaking views of the Mediterranean far below.

Stopping in Positano

Positano sits midway between Sorrento and Amalfi, making it an ideal stop. You can pause for 30 minutes to walk down to the beach and take photos, or spend an hour browsing the boutiques on Via dei Mulini. Your driver will wait and continue to Amalfi when you are ready.

Amalfi: What to See

Amalfi is famous for its magnificent 9th-century Cathedral of Saint Andrew, the atmospheric Paper Museum, narrow streets filled with ceramic shops, and a lively piazza overlooking the harbour. It is also the departure point for the short drive up to Ravello and for ferries to Positano, Capri, and Salerno.

If you want to see more than just Amalfi, we offer full-day car service. Your driver takes you from Sorrento along the coast, stopping at Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello before returning. This is the best way to experience the entire Amalfi Coast in a single day.
